• We tag some of the largest marine predators to assist the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in gathering research data for marine conservation, which helps monitor apex predator populations worldwide.

Q: What large fish and shark species can we catch from the shore?

• Sharks: On our charters, anglers frequently land Blacktip, Spinner, Bull, Lemon, Hammer, Tiger, and Nurse Sharks right from the beach at our best local fishing spots.

• Other large game species we often catch while shark fishing include: Giant Goliath Grouper, Bull Stingray, and Giant Tarpon (6+ ft)

• Other Large Game We Regularly Target: Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Jack Crevalle, and King Mackerel all right from our local honey hole beaches.

Q: Do I need a license or permit for shore-based shark fishing?

• Saltwater License: Yes, all residents and non-residents over age 16 need a standard Florida saltwater fishing license.

• Shark Permit: If you target sharks from land, you must secure a (free) Shore-based Shark Fishing Permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website.

• Mandatory Course: To get this permit, you must complete the quick, free online FWC Shark Educational Course annually.

Q: Can we pull the sharks onto the sand for a photo?

• No: Prohibited shark species, including: Hammerheads, tigers, and lemon sharks which must remain in the water with their gills fully submerged and a quick release.

• Yes: There are several shark species, including: bull sharks, blacktips, and a few others that we often catch, for which a posing photo can be taken quickly before we release them.

Q: What specific gear and bait rules apply to the beach?

• Hook Rules: You must use non-offset, non-stainless-steel circle hooks when using natural bait.

• Tool Requirement: You are legally required to carry a device capable of quickly cutting the leader or hook to release sharks safely.

• Chumming Ban: It is strictly prohibited to chum the water from the beach when fishing for any species.

Q: When is the best time for beach-based big game fishing?

• Spring and Fall: This is the absolute peak for land-based shark action and brings the big sharks closer to the surf line.

• Summer months: Some of the best fishing of the year. Regardless of the coastal species, long days and favorable conditions provide nonstop action.
